SSD Price Index

SSD prices follow NAND Flash, the memory chips that make up most of a drive's cost. This page tracks the industry's contract prices — what SSD makers pay for NAND — quarter by quarter since the mid-2023 trough, using TrendForce's published forecasts with a source for every number. It is market data, not a record of any retailer's prices. Last reviewed 2026-10-16.

⚡ Quick Answer

4Q26: TrendForce forecasts NAND Flash contract prices +15 to +20% quarter-over-quarter (TrendForce, 30 Sep 2026).Chained from TrendForce's quarterly forecasts, the index stands at 569 against 100 at the mid-2023 trough (3Q23) — roughly 5.7× — and is up 259% since the end of 2025. Retail SSD prices lag contract prices by a few months and move less, but in the same direction.

Index = 100 at the mid-2023 trough, then multiplied each quarter by the midpoint of TrendForce’s published contract-price forecast for that quarter. The final point is the forecast for the current quarter. Source for each quarter is in the table below.

Each row is the forecast TrendForce published at the start of that quarter. Where a release gave a range, the index uses its midpoint; where it gave only a direction, the note explains how it was modelled. Nothing is interpolated or estimated by us.

It is a chained series of TrendForce’s quarterly NAND Flash contract-price forecasts: the price changes the industry’s own analysts announced ahead of each quarter, multiplied together from the 2023 trough. Contract prices are what SSD and phone makers pay NAND suppliers under negotiated agreements, and NAND is about 90% of an SSD’s bill of materials (Kingston, December 2025), so this is the upstream driver of every SSD price you see.It is not a record of retail prices, and it is not a price history for any individual drive or retailer. We do not publish retailer price histories. Retail prices lag contract prices by one to two quarters and are damped by inventory, competition and promotions, so a 70% contract-price jump does not mean a 70% jump at the checkout.Forecasts are not actuals. The series is built from forecasts because those are what TrendForce publishes openly; the realised numbers sit in paid reports. The gap matters most in 4Q25, when the market moved far faster than the +5–10% forecast — see the evidence below.

Outlook for 2027

TrendForce expects NAND Flash to enter a looser supply environment in 2H27 as higher-layer migration and new fab ramps drive significantly stronger bit supply growth than in 2026, putting increasing downward pressure on prices — while enterprise storage (above all QLC SSDs for AI) remains the main source of demand growth and consumer demand stays weak. The stated upside risk: faster-than-expected agentic-AI adoption could keep the market closer to balance.

How to use this page

If you are deciding whether to buy now or wait: the index tells you which way the upstream cost is moving and how fast. A rising index with new capacity years away means waiting has not paid off and is unlikely to soon; a flattening index with supply loosening is the first sign that retail prices will follow. Pair it with the good-price thresholds and the drive comparison to pick the right drive at whatever the market is doing.

We update the index when TrendForce publishes its next quarterly forecast and refresh the street sample monthly; the review date is at the top of the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a price history of SSDs on Amazon or another retailer?
No. The index is built from NAND Flash contract prices — the industry prices SSD makers pay for memory chips — as published in TrendForce’s quarterly forecasts. We do not track or publish any retailer’s price history. The street-price sample is a dated snapshot of five retail prices from TrendForce, not a history.
What is the difference between contract prices and retail prices?
Contract prices are negotiated between NAND suppliers and large buyers (SSD brands, phone and PC makers, cloud providers) and reset roughly quarterly. Retail prices are what consumers pay for finished drives. Retail follows contract with a lag of one to two quarters and moves less, because of inventory, competition and promotions.
How much have NAND prices risen since 2023?
Chained from TrendForce’s quarterly forecasts, the index stands at 569 against 100 at the mid-2023 trough — about 5.7× — and up 259% since the end of 2025 alone. Industry participants reported even larger realised jumps in late 2025: Kingston cited a 246% rise since early 2025 by December, and Phison said a 1TB TLC chip went from $4.80 in July 2025 to $10.70 in November.
Why did SSD prices rise so much in 2026?
AI data centers. Cloud providers shifted storage demand to high-capacity QLC SSDs as hard drives ran short, locked in supply with multi-quarter agreements, and NAND makers prioritised enterprise products while new fab capacity is not expected in volume before late 2027. Consumer SSDs became the lowest-priority allocation. Details: Why are SSD prices rising?
Will SSD prices go down?
TrendForce expects NAND supply to loosen in the second half of 2027 and prices to come under downward pressure then. Until new capacity arrives, consumer weakness is slowing the increases but not reversing them. Our dated reading of the evidence: Will SSD prices go down?
How often is the index updated?
When TrendForce publishes its forecast for the next quarter (usually in the last weeks of the preceding quarter), and the street sample roughly monthly. The review date is shown at the top of the page and every data point carries its own source date.
